Dominique Donois
This series of work is inspired by the poem of A White Crow,
which is very much a moment, a whisper and a little secret
between the best of friends. It is a wonderland of fairytales
and dreams of a childhood. This is where Dominique began…
Dominique’s sculptures are conceived like a film, each scene is
depicted by the script and the script are the wires that renders
the forms of the sculpture like a enchanted pencil that illustrates
3 dimensional forms, ushering the formation of the entity as
colors and other elements fall in place as the composition
is fulfilled by the final touch of a white point in the eyes,
rendering it life.
For this exhibition, the surreal sculptures fuses clouds into hair,
landscapes into dresses and paired with a uncanny accessory
in the likes of a giant flower, dancing shoes to name a few.
It makes one wonder what’s the tale behind each and as
you develop your synthesis of the tale with the character,
in a certain perspective, you become part of the story.
In his series “Enchantment”, some vague memories seems
to linger as if you were there, in a plane that lies within
your sub-consciousness. Something that you seem to
have experienced and yet forgotten about, like a lost
fragment of memory. How? Contradicting? But don’t
you agree that things you see in such an ethereal state
demonstrate unparallel beauty?
In a land full of rainbows, fairies, little golden bells,
memories of “once upon a time”, very long silky hair,
giant flowers, dancing shoes, wolf hoods and maybe
the distant sound of a white bird that flies away…

“白烏鴉就像是每個人的小冒險，也像是一個充滿詩意、
只能在耳畔低語的小秘密。”
這是Dominique創作的起點：夢的時刻、兒時回憶、
童話故事和一些綿綿密密的絮語。
Dominique的雕塑作品都是以紙和鐵線作成，
不會有太多素描草稿，
鐵線把空間當成畫紙，就像鉛筆一樣
之後耐心地將紙漿一層層糊上，等它乾，然後上色
對Dominique來說，每件雕塑品要一直到點上眼睛的白色反光點，
加上眼神之後，才算完成，
這是使作品活起來的瞬間。
這系列的作品裡，所有女孩兒都有雲朵一般頭髮，
她們的洋裝上有著前夜夢裡的風景，
她們有著神秘又精緻的配件：一顆大蘋果、一朵大花…
好像想要在奇異的氣氛裡多待一會兒一樣，
而這些故事的結果，將由觀賞者自己繼續延伸下去。
就好像每天在醒來前的一瞬間，在這珍貴的半睡半醒時刻，
美好的夢在甦醒之後都還會被記得；
而Dominique的夢裡會有：
彩虹劃過的世界、精緻的小仙女、小金鈴、
”在好久好久以前”的古老回憶、長的像絲般的頭髮、
巨大的花朵、跳舞的鞋子和狼群，
然後也許，是一隻白鳥飛過發出的聲音。
